Player Character:

Harry

Harry is the player character for Turmoil. He was designed by myself, inspired by factory workers of the 1920s. The intention was to create a strong character who has a mechanical arm. The idea behind Harry is that he is the last human in the factory.

Harry - References

Initial design was created with paper and pencil following references gathered from Pinterest and references provided by the Creative Director

This design captured the 1920s aspect of the initial concept however, it was lacking in strength. This character didn't look like they could hold up in a fight against a robot.

Harry - Blockout

To get a better understanding of how big we wanted him to be, I took my concept work into Blender and created a block-out from subdivided spheres

Harry - Development

The process of creating Harry involved three artists. The other artists were responsible for creating the clothing for the model. It was my responsibility to create the mech arm, face, and mask for the character. I then reviewed the models from the other artists, provided feedback, and optimized all the assets for animation.

Harry - Mech Arm

Harry's mechanical arm was inspired by historic armor and modern-day prosthetics. I wanted to create a ridged frame that still supported movement. A few aspects of the original design were cut due to scope constraints.

Harry - UV and Texture

After the model was retopologized, I UV unwrapped the mesh for texturing in substance painter. Harrys textures were painted by another artist on the team
